High-Quality Diamonds Recovered in Thorny River Exploration
August 11, 21(IDEX Online) - Four high-quality diamonds have been recovered from the newly-discovered extension to a kimberlite pipe in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
Botswana Diamonds also reports abundant kimberlitic indicators from drill samples at the Thorny River kimberlite extension, which was discovered in November 2020.
It says indications so far are very encouraging, and it will embark on another drilling program in the coming weeks.
So far 320kg of samples from 12 percussion holes, taken at one metre intervals yielded four diamonds of good colour, clarity and of commercial quality, along with extensive diamond indicators minerals.
John Teeling, chairman of the UK-based exploration company said: "The recovery of high-quality diamonds and so many diamond indicators is very rare. The diamonds are of good quality.
"It is unusual to recover diamonds from a small sample of narrow reverse circulation drill holes so it bodes well for the potential of the Thorny River project. Even more encouraging is that the size of the kimberlite from which the diamonds were recovered, is itself expanding."
