Lucara's 1,175-ct Diamond on Display in New York

(IDEX Online) - The world's third largest rough diamond - a 1,174.76- carat clivage stone recovered at Karowe, Botswana - has gone on display at a New York hotel.
The baseball-sized gem (pictured) is being shown at at the Whitby Hotel, in upper midtown Manhattan, by miner Lucara and manufacturer HB Antwerp.
They're keen to highlight the stone's natural state, says a Reuters report, at a time when lab grown are becoming more and more popular.
The stone is described as as half dark, half pure and transparent, measuring 77x55x33mm and weighing 235 grams. It has yet to be named.
HB Anwerp, the diamond tech newcomer that cut and polished the 1,758-ct Sewelo, recovered from the same mine in April 2019, has yet to make a decision on the stone's future.
