$3m of Poor Quality Chinese Fakes Seized by US Customs
December 16, 21(IDEX Online) - A $3m shipment of fake jewelry and scarves labelled as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Cartier, Hermes, Versace, and Chanel has been seized by US customs.
A total of 1,830 counterfeit items, inlcuding bracelets, rings, and earrings, from China were destined for private home in Flushing, New York.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in Cincinnati, Ohio, said the pirated goods raised suspicions because of "the packaging and the poor quality of the material".
They said the genuine articles would have been worth $3.09m.
"In addition to the impact on businesses and the economy, purchasing counterfeit goods carry harmful risks to shoppers," said LaFonda Sutton-Burke, of the CBP.
"It is vital that consumers be aware of what they are purchasing and know the dangers that may be involved."
