Diacore Pays $13.8m for 32-ct Pink Diamond
December 21, 21(IDEX Online) - A 32.32 carat pink rough diamond from Petra's Williamson mine in Tanazania, has been sold for $13.8m to multinational manufacturer Diacore.
Its chairman Nir Livnat described the gem as a "rare masterpiece of nature".
The stone (pictured) was among 26,000 carats offered in Antwerp last month at Williamson's first tender following a lengthy Covid-enforced closure.
Diacore specializes in rare colored diamonds and has cut some of world's most famous diamonds, including the 203.04-carat De Beers Millennium Star and the 59.60-carat Pink Star flawless fancy vivid pink diamond.
The open-pit Williamson mine was mothballed in April 2020 to "preserve its liquidity, at a time when diamond pricing was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic". Operations resumed in Q1 FY 2022.
