(IDEX Online) - Mining giant Rio Tinto has appointed a female boss for the first time at its Diavik mine.
Angela Bigg (pictured) becomes the new president and CEO, following the departure of Richard Storrie.
She takes charge of 1,100 employees at the Diavik Diamond Mine, which produced 6.2m carats in 2020 in a remote part of Canada's subarctic Northwest Territories.
Angela began her career with Rio Tinto in 2005 and has worked in Mozambique, South Africa and her native Australia. She joined Diavik in 2017 as vice president, finance.
Rio Tinto Minerals chief executive Sinead Kaufman said: "Angela has a deep knowledge of our people and our operations, as well as established relationships with local communities. I'm delighted she will be Diavik's first female president."
