Low Grade Ores: Murowa's Diamond Output Drops 43%
January 05, 22(IDEX Online) - Output at the Murowa mine, in Zimbabwe, was down by 43 per cent for Q3.
Operators RZM Murowa, an associate of RioZim, blamed "low-grade ores from the K1 pit after the high-grade K2 pit reached pit life".
The mine's full year production for 2020 was 568,222 carats, down from 685,000 carats in 2019, but RioZim did not disclose Q3 carat production in its trading update.
It said plans to increase the processing capacity - which it calls The Associate's Crown Jewel Project - had been progressing more slowly than hoped due to lack of adequate foreign currency.
Murowa owns almost 200 diamond claims in the Sese area, of Chivi district. Meanwhile Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) and Alrosa are jointly exploring sites in the country.
