Fancy Color Diamond Prices Index Rises 1.7% in 2021
February 01, 22(IDEX Online) - The price of fancy color diamonds rose by an average of 1.7 per cent last year, reversing a drop during pandemic-hit 2020.
Blues performed best, with average prices rises of 2.2 per cent across all categories. Pinks were up 2.0 per cent and yellows roes 0.9 per cent, according to the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) which today published its quarterly index.
It said 89 per cent of the 128 categories it tracks showed a price rise during the year, with increases of up to 7.9 per cent. Fancy 1.5-cts intense yellows fared worst, with a 1.3 per cent drop.
The New York-based non-profit foundation was unable to provide comparable figures for much of 2020 because of the low volume of trade but in Q4 it reported a year-on-year drop of 0.8 per cent.
It tracks pricing data for fancy color diamonds in Hong Kong, New York, Geneva and Tel Aviv.
