Sotheby's Record Blue Diamond has $48m Estimate
February 17, 22(IDEX Online) - Sotheby's Hong Kong is to sell a record blue diamond, weighing 15.10-ct and with a $48m estimate.
The Type IIb step cut De Beers Cullinan Blue is the largest blue diamond ever to be auctioned, and has been graded by GIA as vivid blue and IF clarity.
It was recovered in April 2021 by UK-based Petra at The Cullinan mine, South Africa, as a 39.34-cts rough gem, which was sold to a De Beers/Diacore partnership for $40.18m.
"This diamond ranks as one of the best De Beers has ever seen," said CEO Bruce Cleaver. "It is extremely rare and unique, and De Beers is pleased to join together with Sotheby's to bring this diamond to the world."
