Petra Sells $110m of Rough at $188 per carat
March 01, 22(IDEX Online) - Petra says it's sold rough diamonds worth a total of $110.5m so far during its fourth tender cycle of FY 2022.
It has sold 589,168 carats, around 80 per cent of the total, and expects to sell the remainder by some time around 7 March.
Petra Diamonds, listed on the London Stock Exchange, said there were no exceptional stones and the average per carat price was $188.
"Like-for-like rough diamond price increases on the six months to December 2021 are still being determined and will be announced when they become available," it said.
"As a result, it is not yet possible to determine how much of the increase in US$ price per carat is attributable to market movement versus product mix."
Petra operates three underground mines in South Africa - Finsch, Cullinan (pictured) and Koffiefontein - as well as the open pit Williamson mine in Tanzania.
