Lesotho Mines Sells Record 47.80-ct Pink
October 25, 22(IDEX Online) - Storm Mountain Diamonds says it has recovered and sold the biggest ever pink diamond at its Kao mine, in Lesotho.
But it declined to disclose the price paid for the Pink Eternity, a rough gem weighing 47.80 carats, which was sold last month.
The miner sells on tender through sales and marketing partner Bonas Couzyn Antwerpen.
In a brief statement Storm Mountain said it was "pleased to announce the recovery and sale of an exceptional pink diamond weighing 47.80-cts, the largest pink diamond recovered at Kao to date".
The kimberlite pipe at Kao is the largest in Lesotho and the fourth largest in Southern Africa. SMD is jointly owned by Namakwa Diamonds Limited and the Lesotho Government.
In recent years Kao has yielded the 25.97-ct Pink Dawn (2021) the 36.06-ct Pink Storm (sold in 2014) the 3.06-ct Purple Princess (2017) and the 29.59-ct Rose of Kao (2018).
"In a short space of time, the Kao Mine in Lesotho has become a primary producer of exceptional pink diamonds," the company said.
