IDEX Price Report for 1 November: Rounds Down Again, More Upward Movement for Fancies

(IDEX Online) - The overall trend is still downwards, although there are pockets of price increases among some sizes. Consumers are tightening their belts, which is having a clear impact on diamond prices. They're buying smaller stones, or if they do opt for bigger stones, they're settling for lower colors and clarities.

Rounds

Price drops dominated in 0.40-cts to 1.24-cts, although most of those sizes saw increases in D&E colors and VS2 clarities. Prices for better goods of G+ / SI1+ are down, and lower colors and clarities are seeing increases. More increases than decreases among 1.25-cts to 2.99-cts and especially investor goods, 5.00-cts-5.99-cts. Price drops dominated in 3.00-cts to 3.99-cts J+ and SI1+. Little movement in goods under 0.40-cts.

Fancies

There was generally more upward than downward movement, primarily among 1.25-cts to 5.99-cts. However goods of 0.30-cts to 1.24-cts saw a flurry of price drops, mostly among I+ and SI2+ goods, with barely any rises in these sizes and virtually no movement among poorer quality goods.
