Kim Kardashian Buys The Princess Diana Pendant
January 19, 23(IDEX Online) - Kim Kardashian has bought the amethyst and diamond pendant famously worn by the late Princess Diana.
The American socialite and media personality paid $197,453 for the Attallah Cross after fierce bidding at Sotheby's London yesterday. The estimate was $97,000 to $145,000.
The The Fleuree cross, circa 1920, set with square-cut amethyst and accented by circular-cut diamonds belongs to London-based Garrard, official jeweler to the royal family for 160 years until 2007.
It was bought by Naim Attallah CBE, from Garrard in the 1980s. Princess Diana first borrowed the cross in 1987, and on many subsequent occasions, as part of a bold fashion statement.
It is understood that the cross was only ever worn by the Princess, and following her death, it was never seen in public again
"The amethyst cross was competed for by four bidders, in the last five minutes of Sotheby's Royal and Noble sale, ultimately landing in the hands of a representative for Ms. Kardashian at more than double its pre-auction estimate," said a Sotheby's spokesman.
