$1m Heist at Argentine Gold Mine
April 19, 23(IDEX Online) - Thieves fled with gold worth $1m after breaking into a mine in the in the Santa Cruz province of Argentina.
Canadian miner Patagonia Gold Corp lost around a month's production in the heist, at the gold room of its Cap-Oeste Project.
The thieves took dore bars - a semi-pure alloy of gold and silver which is transported to the refinery - containing 500 ounces of gold (currently trading at around $2,000/ounce).
Three workers suffered minor injuries during the incident, early on Monday morning (17 April), according to a company statement.
It said it had suspended production pending an investigation to determine "how to implement additional security measures to reduce the likelihood of such an incident reoccurring in the future".
