India's Polished Exports Slide Again in June
July 19, 23(IDEX Online) - India's gross exports of polished diamonds slipped again in June, down 31.5 per cent on the same month last year, to $1.382bn.
That's broadly in line with April's year-on-year decline of 33 per cent, but well down on May, which appeared to show some recovery with a more moderate fall of 17.5 per cent.
Polished exports for April to June are down 29.3 per cent to $4.426bn, according to new figures from GJEPC (Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council).
Gross imports of rough fell 12.6 per cent by value in the same period, to $4.550bn, but increased 6.7 per cent by volume to 31.6m carats as prices kept falling.
Total exports of all gems and jewelry in June fell by 32.9 per cent to $2.230bn, compared with a year-on-year decline of 16 per cent in May and one of almost 36 per cent in April.
Gross exports of polished lab growns fell by 29.8 per cent in April to June, to $333.8m.
