Infinite Blue Fetches $25.3m, Just Below Estimate
October 08, 23(IDEX Online) - The 11.28-carat Infinite Blue, one of the world's largest blue diamonds, sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong for $25.3m.
It just missed its $26m to $37m pre-auction estimate, but did achieve the third highest price ever for a blue diamond sold in Asia.
The radiant-cut fancy vivid blue VS2 Type IIb stone, set in an 18 karat white and pink gold ring with a halo of pink and white trapezoid diamonds, was sold at a single-lot live auction on Thursday (5 October).
"It's been an honour to have been entrusted with the opportunity to offer a diamond of such breathtaking beauty, its price attesting to the resilient demand for top quality colored diamonds amongst global collectors," said Wenhao Yu, chairman of jewellery and watches, Sotheby's Asia.
The record high price for a blue diamond sold at auction is jointly held by the fancy-vivid-blue 15.10-carat De Beers Blue sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong in April 2022 for $57.5m, and the 14.6-carat Oppenheimer Blue, which sold at Christie's Geneva, also for $57.5m in May 2016.
