Epstein Quits as CEO at AWDC
April 14, 24(IDEX Online) - Ari Epstein is quitting as CEO of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) after 13 years at the helm.
He joined AWDC as director of the Diamond Office, which handles all Antwerp's diamond imports and export and served as deputy CEO of AWDC before he was appointed CEO in January 2011.
His departure, effective on Tuesday 16 April, comes after the introduction of G7 sanctions last month prompted an angry reaction from traders demanding an end to "severe disruption". No reason has been given for his resignation.
Last September David Gotlib quit as AWDC president, little more than a year he replaced Chaim Pluczenik.
Isidore Morsel, who took over as president last October, paid tribute to Epstein.
"Under Ari Epstein's leadership, AWDC has seen unparalleled growth, strengthening our position as a global leader in the diamond industry," he said.
He thanked him for his unwavering dedication, inspirational leadership and significant achievements.
No successor has so far been announced. Epstein declined to comment on his recent decision to step down. We have approached AWDC for comment.
