Lucapa Sells Parcel of Three Diamonds for $10.5m
April 22, 24
(IDEX Online) - Lucapa says it has sold a parcel of three diamonds, with a combined weight of 361 carats, from its Lulo alluvial mine, in Angola, for a total of $10.5m at tender.
The Australian miner said it achieved an average $29,000 per carat at a tender conducted by Sodiam, Angola's state-run diamond trader, that ended last Friday (19 April).
All three diamonds - all Type IIa and weighing 203-cts, 116-cts and 42-cts - were recovered since the start of the year. The 203-ct diamond (pictured) is the fifth largest and the 43rd +100-carat diamond from Lulo since commercial mining started in January 2015.
Lucapa CEO and managing director Nick Selby said: "This is the first tender of Lulo diamonds for 2024 and we are pleased to see that the outstanding quality of these Type IIa diamonds has been recognised by the diamantaires who competitively bid for the stones.
"An average price per carat of US$29,000 for the parcel is further proof that the high-end sector of the diamond market continues to be buoyant."
Lucapa holds a 40 per cent stake in the mine. The remainder is owned by Angola's national diamond company Endiama (32 per cent) and by private Angolan company Rosas & Petalas (28 per cent).
