101-ct Yellow Allnatt Diamond Pulled from Sale
May 16, 24(IDEX Online) - The 101.29-carat Allnatt diamond was pulled from a Sotheby's auction in Geneva on Tuesday (14 May) where it had been expected to fetch up to $7.2m.
The gem, described as one of the world's most significant fancy vivid yellow stones, had been due to lead the Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels Live Auction.
But the auction still exceeded expectations, realizing a total of $34,265,900 (pre-sale estimate was $20,740,670 - $31,598,890).
Sotheby's said 90 per cent of all lots found buyers. Of those over 96 per cent sold above their low estimates and 63 cent sold above their high estimates.
"This edition of our Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale was marked by a succession of outstanding results, affirming the continued strength in the market for jewels and gemstones of the finest quality," said Catharine Becket, Head of Magnificent Jewels, Geneva.
The highest price was achieved by a 37.61-carat internally flawless E-color round-cornered square brilliant-cut diamond which sold for $4.3m.
Sotheby's made no mention of the Allnatt diamond in its post-auction report, but later confirmed it had been withdrawn by the seller.
