Gem Diamonds: Second +100-cts in Under a Week
June 11, 24(IDEX Online) - Gem Diamonds has recovered two +100-cts stones in under a week from its Letseng mine, in Lesotho.
The most recent recovery, a 172.06-cts Type II white diamond, is also the seventh +100-cts diamond so far this year, compared with five during the whole of 2023.
Letseng - 70 per cent owned by Gem and 30 per cent by the Lesotho government - is the highest dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine in the world.
UK-based Gem Diamonds announced the recovery of a 212.49-cts Type II white diamond on 28 May, followed by the 172.06-cts stone five days later on 2 June.
It also announced the recovery of diamonds weighing 118.7-cts and 169.15-cts within two weeks of each other in April. The biggest recovery of the year so far was a 295-cts stone in January.
