10.52-ct Pink Smashes High Estimate at $13.3m
June 13, 24(IDEX Online) - The Eden Rose, an internally flawless 10.20-carat fancy intense pink diamond, smashed its high estimate and sold for $13.3m on Tuesday (11 June) at Christie's New York.
It carried a pre-sale estimate of $9m to $12m, as highlight of the New York Magnificent Jewels auction, a part of Christie's Luxury Week.
The round brilliant diamond, set into an 18-karat white gold ring with 18-karat rose gold prongs, is surrounded by a halo of pear brilliant-cut and marquise-cut diamonds weighing between 0.73 and 3.11 carats.
The hammer price equates to just over $1.3m per carat.
The Type IIa diamond is notable for its complete absence of any secondary color, said Christie's ahead of the sale, unlike many pinks, which display purple, orange, or gray hues.
The auction house described the Eden Rose as the most significant gem of its kind that they've offered since the 12.04-carat Martian Pink, which sold in 2012 for $17.4m - or $1.45m per carat.
The New York Magnificent Jewels auction achieved a total of $44.4m, said Christie's, with 90 per cent of the 144 lots sold.
