GIA Pilots Full Jewelry Reports
June 26, 24(IDEX Online) - GIA is piloting a new service to grade diamonds and other components of jewelry items.
Its Jewelry Reports will, it says, offer insights into metal details, gemstone characteristics, and existing engravings as well as clarity, color, and carat weight of D-to-Z diamonds that don't already have a GIA report unmounted diamond as an unmounted gem. It will detail the grades of diamonds that are already GIA-certified.
The new service was launched earlier this year as a limited program and there is currently a waitlist for those interested.
GIA says it used issue diamond grading reports for mounted diamonds, but discontinued the service in the late 1970s.
While GIA does examine finished jewelry, such examinations have been within the scope of our gemstone identification and pearl services and focused on gemological examination of the gems in the jewelry pieces," said a spokesman. "This new pilot service offers an evaluation of the overall piece of jewelry."
He added that since is a pilot service, the pricing structure has not yet been determined.
