Gubelin Launches AI-Powered Gem Reports

(IDEX Online) - Gubelin Gem Lab is launching AI-powered gemstone reports for unmounted emeralds, rubies, and blue sapphires up to 3.0 carats.
The Swiss watch and jewelry maison, founded in 1854, is using Gemtelligence, an algorithm based entirely on artificial intelligence (AI), to determine the country of origin and to recognize heat treatments in rubies and sapphires.
Gubelin says researchers drew on an a reference stone collection of over 30,000 gemstones from all commercially relevant mines, together with analyses of tens of thousands of high-grade customers' stones that it has analyzed since the 1970s.
The use of AI This shortens the testing workflow, in particular the labor-intensive microscopic assessment, says Gubelin. Gem Passports cost $215.
"We want to contribute and support the industry, making gemmological documents for smaller stones affordable that were often not in the scope so far," said Raphael Gubelin, the company's president.
"The Gem Passport demonstrates our striving for innovation and expresses our pioneering spirit."
