Matching 18-ct Diamonds Could Fetch $5.2m

September 04, 24 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - A pair of near-identical unmounted diamonds - both weighing 18.38 carats and both D color and internally flawless - are being offered at auction by Sotheby's Hong Kong.

The estimate for the two round brilliant diamonds is HKD 30.5m to HKD 40.5m (USD 3.9m to USD 5.2m).

Both stones are Type IIa, certified by the GIA as excellent cut, polish and symmetry.

"In the heart of the earth, two flawless 18.38 carat diamonds were born—a breathtaking testament to nature's artistry," says Sotheby's in its promotional material.

"Not yet mounted, they offer discerning purchasers the chance to choose a bespoke setting that perfectly reflects their personal style."

They are being sold in a sealed auction that runs from 19 to 27 September, without a buyer's premium.
