Yet Another +100-cts Diamond at Letseng
September 05, 24(IDEX Online) - Gem Diamonds today (5 September) announced the recovery of yet another +100-cts diamond, its 11th so far this year.
It comes barely a week after the UK-based company announced its 10th +100-cts stone, on 28 August.
Historically the Letseng mine, in Lesotho, averages eight such stones per year, but last year it recovered only five.
The latest recovery is a 122.20ct Type II white diamond.
Gem Diamonds last week announced increased revenues of $78m for H1 2024, buoyed by its increased recovery of +100-cts stones. It said it was increasing its production guidance for the year.
Letseng - 70 per cent owned by Gem and 30 per cent by the Lesotho government - is the highest dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine in the world.
