Jewelry Worker Sentenced over $100,000 Theft
November 09, 24(IDEX Online) - A jewelry store employee has been spared a jail term in the US after he admitted stealing $100,000 of cash and inventory.
Jason T. Badagliacca, 38, was sentenced instead to five years' probation by Erie County Court, Buffalo, New York.
He stole precious stones and jewelry between September 2021 and August 20222 while working as an inventory manager.
He then sold the items on the side. He also pocketed cash payments customers who financed their purchases made on their account.
Badagliacca tried to conceal the thefts by manipulating business records relating to inventory and income, but the theft was uncovered by an audit.
He was sentenced after pleading guilty to one count of grand larceny in the second degree in May.
He agreed to pay $93,000 to the victim's insurance provider. So far he's paid back $7,000.
