Beating Counterfeiters at Their Own Game
November 20, 24(IDEX Online) - Paris-based jeweler Marie Lichtenberg is beating the counterfeiters - by creating low-priced versions of her own high-end creations.
Last year her company launched "authentic copies" of its Raiz'in lockets - similar in design but using non-precious materials.
Now it has dropped a new range of six Raiz'in Scapular necklaces.
"Just like the first drop, these are no cheap knock-offs," the company says.
They are made with "the same irreverent style, the same high levels of craftsmanship . . . with different materials, to beat the counterfeiters at their own game."
They're priced at £370 to $400 and an unspecified proportion of the proceeds will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for seriously ill children.
The company says its own counterfeiting will help fund "something other than terrorism and drug deals".
One of the "counterfeit" necklaces (pictured left) is made of mother of pearl resin on a 40cm PVD gold-finish grain d'or chain and costs $370.
A similar Eye Protect 18-karat gold necklace (pictured right) with 0.45 carats of sapphires, and 0.032 carats of G-color diamonds, sells for $6,000.
