AI Identifies Seven Targets for Botswana Diamonds
December 16, 24(IDEX Online) - Botswana Diamonds (BOD) says AI has identified seven" "significant kimberlite targets" that indicate potential new diamond reserves.
One is described as being "of extremely high interest," the UK-based explorer said in an update (on 12 December).
The company is using the computing power of AI to process huge volumes of data on vast swathes of land.
"Almost 400,000km of airborne geophysical and other exploration data has been analysed and evaluated," said BOD chairman John Teeling.
"It is astounding. Botswana Diamonds is extremely fortunate to have such a vast treasure trove of decades of diamond exploration data in Botswana.
"We are long term believers in the diamond prospectivity of Botswana and these results reinforce the belief. We believe more diamond mines will be discovered in Botswana".
The company has developed "mineral prospectivity technology" called Xplore in a collaboration with UK-based International Geoscience Services Limited. The system acts much like a geologist, but can function much faster and more efficiently.
"Seven significant kimberlite targets have been identified to date that have not been previously reported, with one target being identified by the board of being particularly high interest due to its geological qualities," BOD said.
The AI has also identified possible targets for as gold, copper, silver, nickel, zinc and PGMs.
