Work to Begin on Vast India Jewellery Park Mumbai
January 06, 25(IDEX Online) - Work is to start later this month on India Jewellery Park, a vast, 21-acre development in Mumbai.
It will become home to manufacturing units, design studios and trading centers, attract $58bn (₹50,000 crores) in investment and create employment opportunities for over 100,000 people, according to the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) which is behind the development.
Its chairman Vipul Shah said phase one of India Jewellery Park Mumbai (IJPM) would be ready by December 2026.
He was speaking yesterday (5 January) at the inauguration of the 17th India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Signature gem and jewelry trade show.
Deependra Singh Kushwaha, development commissioner industries for the Maharashtra state, said: "Mumbai has iconic infrastructure such the Bharat Diamond Bourse, SEEPZ and the world's largest handmade jewellery hub in Zaveri Bazaar and Dagina Bazaar.
"With the upcoming India Jewellery Park in Navi Mumbai, 1 lakh people will get employment. With this Rs 50,000 crore investment in the Jewellery Park, Maharashtra will take centre-stage in India's gem and jewellery industry."
