Qatar Launches Diamond Conference with a Difference
January 09, 25(IDEX Online) - Qatar is to host the inaugural Doha International Diamond & Gem Conference at the end of this month, with a pledge to discuss "out-of-the-box strategies" to advance the diamond and colored gemstone industry.
Organizers are expecting over 200 visitors from 30 countries.
Speakers will include Ahmed bin Sulayem, executive chairman and CEO of Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC); Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Botswana's minister of minerals and energy; Edward Asscher, vice president, Responsible Jewellery Council; Ronnie VanderLinden, president, International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) and Vipul Shah, chairman, Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
Executives from the World Diamond Council, De Beers and other mining companies, GIA, sightholders and diamond bourses are expected to attend.
"We encourage attendees to step outside their comfort zones and discuss new, to develop, advance and grow the diamond and coloured gemstone trade and make it more profitable and attractive to consumers," say organizers of the three-day event which starts on 29 January at The Ned Doha hotel (pictured).
"The conference endeavours to be different from other global industry events staged over the past few years," said Alex Popov, chair of the organizing committee
"We are fully aware of the recent structural changes that have taken place throughout the diamond and gemstone supply chain. In addition, consumer preferences and behaviour also have significantly shifted."
