African Producers Back Traceability Platform
January 13, 25(IDEX Online) - Diamond producers in Africa are backing the traceability platform Authentia, and are encouraging G7 and the Kimberley Process to adopt it.
The African Diamond Council, representing the interests of 18 member states, says it has been working with developers for the last three-and-a-half years.
Authentia has been available to miners for the last 14 months, according to a report in the Botswana Guardian (10 January).
The company was founded in 2018 by Bruno Scarselli, a prominent figure in the diamond industry, and managing partner at new York-based Scarselli Diamonds.
The ADC has made traceability its primary focus, to enhance transparency and accountability in diamond trading, particularly for African diamond-producing countries.
Authentia.io incorporates blockchain technology to offer certificates of origin, tracking systems, nano tagging, and titles of ownership.
It allows diamond-producing nations to control the narrative of their diamonds' origins, ensuring that the story is not solely dictated by retailers.
Dr. M'zee Fula Ngenge, ADC chairperson, says Authentia.io allows African nations to assert their position in the market.
