Biggest Fall in a Decade for Fancy Color Prices
January 28, 25(IDEX Online) - Fancy color diamonds prices in 2024 suffered their biggest annual fall since the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) launched its Index in 2014.
The Index, which tracks the prices of all sizes and intensities of yellow, pink and blue diamonds, was down 2.2 per cent during the year.
The FCRF said the results (published today, 28 January) reflected "broader economic uncertainties" and it highlighted the fact that white diamond prices had fallen 13.3 per cent during the same period.
"These results underline the market's stability and the enduring appeal of fancy color diamonds as a specialized asset class," said FCRF data supplier Anshul Gandhi.
The Index rose 2.2 per cent in 2023 and 3.9 per cent in 2022.
Prior to 2024, the poorest-performing year was 2019, when it fell 1.4 per cent.
Prices for yellow diamonds were the worst hit last year, down by 5.6 per cent. Blues were down 1.8 per cent and pinks down 0.8 per cent.
The FCRF also published Q4 figures, which indicate poorer performances for yellows and pinks than during the previous quarter.
Yellows were down 2.2 per cent (-1.6 per cent in Q3); blues were down 0.3 per cent (-0.7 per cent in Q3) and pinks were down 0.8 per cent (-0.1 per cent in Q3).
