Another Month of Decline for India's Polished Exports
February 20, 25
(IDEX Online) - India's gross exports of polished diamonds in January were 12.5 per cent down on those for the same month last year, at just over $1bn.
New figures from the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) show the global decline in demand is continuing.
Foreign sales in December 2024 were down 10.4 per cent year-on-year (all percentages refer to dollar changes).
But that suggest some improvement, given that polished exports for April 2024 to January 2025 were down by 17.3 per cent.
Exports of lab growns - a tiny proportion of all India's diamond exports - plunged 25 per cent during January (to $85.4m).
Overall gross exports across all India's gem and jewelry sectors were down 7.0 per cent during January, to $2.2bn.
