TV Probe into Argyle Pink Diamond Heist
March 23, 25
(IDEX Online) - The infamous Argyle pink diamond theft - in which at least AUD50m of gems were smuggled out of the Australian mine over at least five years - is to be turned into a true crime TV drama series.
Pink Diamond Heist is based on a five-part podcast series, Expanse: Pink Diamond Heist, released by the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) in 2022.
The heist was notable for its complexity - Rio Tinto's now-closed Argyle mine was known for its high-level security - and the fact that some of the stolen diamonds remain in circulation today.
They were reportedly traded internationally in Switzerland, the US, and Hong Kong, with the buyers unaware of their illicit origin.
Decade Films and Factor 30 Films are behind the Pink Diamond Heist project
Producer Ray Quint of Decade Films said: "We are thrilled to be working with Factor 30 and Sinead Mangan (podcast producer) to bring this captivating, stranger-than-fiction true story to the screen."
