Jailed: Ex-Manager who Posted Selfies Wearing Stolen Jewelry
June 26, 25
(IDEX Online) - A woman who stole over $165,000 of jewelry from the store she managed has been jailed, after she posted selfies wearing some of the items.
Staff became suspicious when Lucy Roberts, 39, started taking jewelry home from Daniella Draper in Beverley, East Yorkshire, England, claiming she was sorting stock for the workshop.
She was arrested by officers at Heathrow Airport after she returned from a luxury cruise - wearing a substantial amount of stolen jewelry and with additional items in her suitcase.
Body camera footage from the arrest shows her removing more jewelry as she was escorted through the airport in an attempt to dispose of it," police said.
A total of 269 items worth $147,113 were also recovered from her bedroom.
Roberts, who had, by then, quit her job, posted pictures of herself "dripping in diamonds" on a cruise, seemingly without a care in the world, according to police.
"Roberts arrogantly posed on social media and sent pictures boasting to her ex-colleagues about the great time she was having on holiday, not thinking they would realize what she had been doing," said detective sergeant Krista Wilkinson, of Humberside Police.
"From the photos she sent colleagues you could clearly see the high value and unique pieces that she was wearing which she had not purchased whilst working for the store."
Roberts was jailed (on 20 June) for 28 months at Grimsby Crown Court after pleading guilty to theft by employee.
