De Beers and Endiama Discover New Kimberlite Field

(IDEX Online) - De Beers has announced the discovery of a new kimberlite field - a potential source of diamonds - in Angola, in partnership with the country's national diamond company, Endiama.
It's three decades since De Beers last found a new source of diamonds and it heralds a new era for Angola, which has only explored about 40 per cent of its diamond-rich territories.
In a joint statement, De Beers and Endiama said it was "a significant step forward in their joint exploration efforts with the discovery of kimberlite, the host rock for diamonds".
De Beers returned to Angola in 2022 after limited success exploring there from 2005 to 2012. It secured new mineral investment contracts with the Angolan government for two areas in the northeast of the country, particularly in the Lunda Sul province
De Beers carried geological surveys, aerial electromagnetic studies, and prospecting work. Late last year it said it had identified eight new kimberlite targets which it considered highly prospective.
"In July 2025, the De Beers-Endiama joint venture successfully intersected kimberlite in its first drill hole into a high-priority cluster of targets identified from the airborne surveys completed in March 2025," the companies said in a statement issued yesterday (12 August).
"This breakthrough represents the discovery of the first new kimberlite field by De Beers Group in more than three decades.
"Over the coming months, further drilling, ground geophysical surveys, and laboratory analysis will be conducted to confirm the kimberlite type and assess its diamond potential."
