Hari Krishna Exports Gifts Big to Workers For Diwali

(IDEX Online News) – It’s going to be a very happy Diwali for nearly 1,200 employees of the Surat-based manufacturing company Hari Krishna Exports, which has just given away cars, jewelry and even apartments to some of its staff in a headline-making company “loyalty program.”
The workers received a performance reward valued at around $5,870.
About 500 employees opted for a brand new Fiat Punto, while 570 workers selected jewelry and 207 chose to use their money as a down payment for an apartment in the company’s housing scheme.
“What I do is social business,” company chairman Savji Dholakia told the Washington Post. “I am not a socialist, I am a businessman. But I don’t spend money on charity for strangers. I do social work for the people who toil for my company. I share the profit with the people who created the profit.”
Dholakia established Hari Krishna Exports in 1992. The firm, which employs about 6,000 people, posted more than $1 billion in exports this year.
