Jewelry Designer Dies in Superyacht Tragedy
August 26, 24
(IDEX Online) - Jewelry designer Neda Morvillo, from New York City, was among the seven people who died when the luxury superyacht Bayesian sank off the coast of Sicily last Monday (19 August).
Morvillo, aged 57, died alongside her husband, 59-year-old Christopher Morvillo, a prominent attorney, in a tragedy that also claimed the life of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch.
The couple are survived by their two adult daughters Sabrina and Sophia Morvillo.
Neda, who traded as Neda Nassiri, had been designing and handcrafting fine jewelry for over 20 years, according to her website.
She trained with master goldsmith Cecelia Bauer and used classical goldsmithing techniques to create pieces mostly in 22k gold or pure silver.
Her husband Christopher successfully defended Lynch - whose family owned the yacht - in a high-profile fraud case, and the couple were on board by way of a celebration.
Of the 22 people on board, 15 were rescued - nine crew members and six passengers.
