Consumers Become Increasingly Aware of Colored Diamonds

January 27, 04 by Edahn Golan

A recent study found that consumer’s awareness to natural colored diamonds - primarily pink, yellow and brown - was significantly on the rise last year.

The study by the Jewelry Consumer Opinion Council (JCOC) conducted November 5-12, 2003, found that familiarity with pink diamonds increased 30.4 percent, yellow diamonds by 21.8 percent, and brown or champagne diamonds by 5.7 percent.

“This is an encouraging trend. The North American consumer is becoming increasingly familiar with pink, champagne and other naturally colored diamonds,” said Nigel Jones, General Manager of Marketing at Rio Tinto Diamonds, owners of the Argyle mine known for its colored gems.

A close look at many of the women attending the recent Golden Globe Awards ceremony revels that celebrities are already hot on the trail of colored diamonds and no doubt as fashion editors at the leading fashion magazines notice this, demand will grow in the market.
