Yakutia Taking Diamond Mining Underground

Diamond mining in the cold regions of Siberia will shift from open pit to underground mining, Yakutia President Vyacheslav Shtyrov told Russian officials in a meeting at Mirny. Alrosa mines most of its goods in Yakutia.

“We are building four underground mines and designing one more,” Interfax quoted Shtyrov. “These will mine diamonds at a depth of 1,500 meters.
