5% Average Price Hike Expected at July Sight

Sightholders attending this week’s Sight in London will see prices raised by as much as 15 percent on certain boxes, most notably +1 carat goods. Overall, the price increase is about 5 percent.

The Diamond Trading Company (DTC) informed Sightholders ahead of the Sight that rough diamonds yielding +1 carat in polished goods will rise in price by 5-15 percent in +VS ranges and by 10-15 percent in SI goods.

Increases of 5-10 percent are expected in better quality 20 pointers, with a more moderate 3-5 percent price increase in the SI goods. Prices of melee goods have been hiked by 3-10 percent for better goods and by 2-5 percent in the SI clarity range.

Prices of goods producing I clarity polished will remain unchanged.

The DTC will publish a cumulative price update for the August Sight ahead of the Hong Kong show, which opens on September 17. Sightholders are expecting to receive a more frequent update on price changes as they take place.

Prices of polished goods have been on an upward movement in the recent past. According to the IDEX Online Polished Diamond Price Index, polished diamond prices rose a record 3.8 percent in June compared to May. The average price of 1 carat goods rose by 4.5 percent, 2 carat diamonds by 5.3 percent and 4 caraters by as much as 8 percent month over month.
