Israel Polished Exports Recover in July

August 12, 08 by Edahn Golan

Israel’s polished diamond exports rose 27.7 percent in July to $821.52 million. In volume, exports increased 1.4 percent to 351,666 carats, an average of $2,336 per carat. In the first seven months of the year exports rose to $4.61 billion, a 9.3 percent year-over-year growth.

Israel exported $429.24 million worth of polished diamonds to the U.S., $159.39 million worth of goods to Hong Kong and $85.96 million in diamonds to India.

Israel is increasingly focusing on trade with India, as its main market the U.S. suffers from a slowdown.

The country’s imports of $425.67 million were an 11.7 percent increase over July 2007, shipping in 270,311 carats, a 14.4 percent decline. The average value of imports stood at $1,574.75 p/c in July.
