Dubai Customs Seizes $1.18 Million in Rough Diamonds

The Dubai customs foiled a few days ago an attempt to smuggle rough diamonds worth AED 4 million ($1.18 million) at the Dubai International Airport. The goods were hidden below the clothes of a woman with an African nationality attempting to enter the country.

The woman’s suspicious behavior caught the attention of customs inspectors, Dubai Customs said on Tuesday.

Two cloth bags were wrapped around her body. Two sealed bags were also found on her during a search. In total, some 53,500 carats (10.7 Kg) of rough diamonds were confiscated.
