Birks & Mayors Responds to Unusual Market Activity

Birks & Mayors Inc., an operator of luxury jewelry stores across Canada and the U.S, released a statement Monday after being contacted by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) with an inquiry regarding unusual market activity in the company’s Class A Voting Shares.

 

Stock of Birks & Mayors (NYSE AMEX:BMJ) saw very heavy trading over the past week, with volume of trading jumping from approximately 1,400 to over 180,000. The stock price has more than doubled as well, from $0.60 to $1.40.

 

The company said in that it is not aware of any corporate developments that might explain the unusual market activity, and that it is Birks & Mayors policy not to comment on unusual market activity or rumors.
