$73,763 P/C Paid for 14.85 cts D/VS1 Diamond at Christie’s Auction

June 10, 10 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

An anonymous bidder paid $1.1 million for a 14.85 carat rectangular-cut D/VS1 diamond ring by Bulgari, at Christie's London Sale held Wednesday. The $73,763 per carat price exceeded by 68 percent the higher estimate for the diamond.

The London Sale realized $6.6 million, and was 85 percent sold by value and 79 percent sold by lot. The second highest selling item, a 7.07carat round cut E/VS2 diamond ring by Cartier, sold for $487,326 to a private Asian buyer.

“Fine quality diamonds, natural pearls and signed jewels were especially sought after,” said Keith Penton, head of jewels at Christie’s London.

“Following on from the success of last week's Hong Kong sale Chinese buyers were in the forefront of much of the bidding,” he added.
