The 27th edition of the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) opened in Mumbai today (Thursday), with some of the 26,000 registered visitors lining up to enter the show halls this morning.

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) organized trade fair is hosting 776 exhibitors, of them 123 foreign companies, in 1600 booths and pavilions. The six pavilions are of leading industry centers - Belgium, Thailand, Israel, Italy, Turkey and UAE.

Trade delegations from China, Malaysia, Japan, Iran, UAE, Syria, Morocco, Libya, Bangladesh, Russia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, UK, Hungary and Poland are visiting the show.

According to the GJEPC, some Rs. 40 billion ($865 million) in goods are expected to be sold, ordered and traded during the five-day show.

To accommodate international visitors, an international Product Gallery that doubles as a lounge has been erected and a special India food festival will be held at it.

IIJS is the second largest such trade show in Asia, and one of the four important trade shows in the world. This led the Ministry of Commerce & Industry to confer IIJS 2010 with the 'Made in India' status.

"IIJS 2010 is the 27th edition of this glittering show and the sheen this year will be provided by huge foreign delegation and the additional special sections that have been provided to cater to the needs of numerous visitors," said GJEPC Chairman Vasant Mehta.

"The show is held at the NSE grounds, Goregaon East August 19 - 23.
