Blue Diamond Ring Fetches $15.7 million at Christie’s New York

(IDEX Online News) - A Bulgari ring set with two large triangular diamonds - a fancy vivid blue, VS2 10.95 carats diamond and 9.87 carats G / VS1 diamond - sold for $15.7 million at Christies Jewel auction yesterday in New York. According to Christies, this is a record price per carat for a blue diamond - $1.4 million.

The two stone diamond ring, set in the 1970s by Bulgari, had an estimated sale price of $12 million. The sale went through a bidding war between an in-house bidder and a phone bidder. After five minutes of trading bids in increments of $500,000, the hammer fell and an anonymous Asian collector received the “sold!”

Total auction proceeds reached $52.5 million.
