Sightholders Buy Half of Diamdel Supplies in H1

January 19, 11 by Edahn Golan

(IDEX Online News) - Diamdel offered 532 lots of rough diamonds at auctions in the second half of 2010, 289 of them in the fourth quarter, the company said in a market update.

The goods - in the -3 gr, 3-8 gr, 2-15 ct and +15 ct size ranges - were bout almost equally by Sightholders and non- Sightholders. The company also announced the opening of its new offices in Israel.

The De Beers subsidiary held online auctions, 217 companies participated at these events with 89 different companies winning lots in the fourth quarter, and 238 companies bid during H2, of them 134 companies submitted winning bids. The goods sold quickly, with 98 percent of the lots offered in the second half of 2010 sold at their first presentation.

CEO Neil Ventura said they witnessed very strong demand. “This combined with other indicators makes us bullish about demand prospects for Q1 2011.”

According to Jonathan Whitney, director of Sales and Marketing, Sightholders won 51 percent of the lots, representing 49 percent by value of the offered goods.

In related news, Diamdel Israel celebrated the opening of new offices with a reception on Sunday. The new premises are situated on the 11th floor of the Yahalom Building in Ramat Gan, part of the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) complex.

The new offices are completely refurbished, offering eight rooms for customers, providing Israeli traders more comfort, time and ultimately buying opportunities, according to Limor Rosner, head of Sales for Diamdel Israel.

“We have witnessed significant growth in the number of registrations, participants and ultimately winning buyers from the Israeli market at our auctions in 2010,” Whitney added.
