Market Report for the week ending March 3, 2011

The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show is opening on Friday, and for the next few days the much of industry will focus on it. The hope of many is that a good show will single that the diamond and jewelry industry is heading to a year of higher polished prices and growing consumer demand.

 

 

U.S.

No change in the level of activity of the New York market. Dealers continue to report shortages in smaller goods, which backs the firm prices. Demands are mostly felt for goods below 1.50 carats.

Stable and consistent demand as traders started shipping goods to Hong Kong ahead of the trade fair. The expectation among traders is that the show is going to be a good one and that they will return to Antwerp with a large number of orders.

Overseas buyers kept the Mumbai market busy, an activity level that would not have been generated by local business. Many traders are already heading to Hong Kong where some expect prices to be very high.
