(IDEX Online News)
– Gross exports of polished diamonds from India continue to grow, rising 5.5% year over year. In April the country exported nearly 5 million carats worth $2.05 billion, according to the latest figures published by the GJEPC.

Imports of polished diamond increased 16.4% to $1.48 billion. This left India with net exports of $552.8 million.

India, long recognized as the leading global diamond center, also has a thriving local market. Gold jewelry imports in April totaled $46.2 million, compared to $19.5 million worth of gold jewelry imported just one year earlier.

Gold jewelry exports have however declined by 8.4% to $4521.1 million.
