Sotheby's New York to Auction Egyptian Royal Family Necklace

(IDEX Online News) – Sotheby’s New York is to auction the historic diamond necklace that belonged to Queen Nazli of Egypt, mother of Egypt’s King Farouk.
The bib-style necklace, which was commissioned from Van Cleef & Arpels on the occasion of Queen Nazli’s daughter to the Crown Prince of Iran in 1939, is set with 217 carats of diamonds in a sunburst motif. It has a pre-sale estimate of $3.6-$4.6 million.
More than 500 pieces of jewelry are on offer at the auction, with several others expected to fetch in excess of $1 million. These include an exceptional platinum, Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring, with a pre-sale estimate of $3.5-$4.5 million. The ring is set with a cabochon sapphire of 25.87 carats..
Also available is a platinum and diamond ring set with a square emerald-cut diamond weighing 38.27 carats, D color, VVS2 clarity and type IIa with a pre-sale estimate of $3.5-$4.5 million. A platinum, fancy pink diamond and diamond ring with a pear-shape stone of 6.93 carats and VS1 clarity has a pre-sale estimate of $2.5-$3.5 million.
“The Stars of Muzo,” a pair of emerald and diamond earrings are set with classic Colombian emeralds – which weigh 22.97 and 21.37 carats respectively. These exceptionally rare emeralds are augmented by more than 5 carats of D-color Internally Flawless diamonds and have a pre-sale estimate of $1.8-$2.2 million.
